| The new CMR-165 H.S. Buccaneer S.Mk.2/2C/2D in FAA service model was displayed for the first time at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2007, on the 1st February. The example chosen being Blackburn-built Buccaneer S.Mk.2, XN982 - '235/V' of 801 NAS, HMS Victorious, in 1966. This is the first time a model manufacturer has included the Martin Marietta AGM-12B, Bullpup-A missile within a Buccaneer model's supplied payloads, along with the 25lb Practice Bomblets - these being the External Payload configuration carried by the model on display at the show. As well as the folded wings and open air brake petals, this model was built with the Assisted Take-Off Hooks and Holdback Mechanism both in their lowered positions. All of which are included within this new model, due for release this month. |

| Czech Master Resin (CMR Models) have advised me that they will be releasing a Catapult Launch detailing set in the future. Primarily designed as an optional extention to their forthcoming FAA Buccaneer S.Mk.2/2C/2D model, I am led to believe that the set is likely to include: Pilot and Observer aircrew figures; a selection of Deck crew, Catapult launching equipment (such a Bridle, Spreader and Holdback) and instructional diagrams to aid diorama modellers. The equipment and information will be designed around Royal Navy angled flight deck aircraft carriers such as: HMS Ark Royal, Eagle, Hermes and Victorious. This does mean however that the diorama modeller, with a little research, should be able to use parts of this set with other Fleet Air Arm types of the period like: Supermarine Scimitar F.1, Fairey Gannet AS.1 & AEW.3, De Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.1 & 2, plus McDonnall Douglas Phantom FG.1 No actual release date has been given for this new detailing set, but it will probably conicide with their future proposed model: No.142 Blackburn Buccaneer S.Mk.1/NA.39 (Pre-Production). I wonder if they will include a Palouse air starter for the deck area as well? |

| I have just received the first images of the 2-part decal sheet artwork, which is now with the decal manufacturers. This is a very large and comprehensive set of markings to be provided with this new model. Czech Master Resin (CMR Models) have once again not skimped on their artwork. These sheets contain: 36 inch underwing serials for each aircraft provided in full, rather that a few separate characters (like some other decal manufacturers have done in the past), complete sets of Squadron insignias, Crests, Air Brake Petal codes, etc. - each accurately reproduced to the particular style applied to that aircraft, at the period of service depicted with that Naval Air Squadron. As with their earlier models of the RAF Buccaneer S.Mk.2A and S.Mk.2B, the airframe external stencil markings have been reproduced to Air Publication A.P. 101B-1202-1A. These are all in the correct colours applied to both the original 'Extra Dark Sea Grey/Anti-Flash White' (Pre-Mod.1218) schemes, as well as the overall 'Extra Dark Sea Grey' (Post-Mod.1218) schemes introduced from 1967-onwards. | Even though the existing Czech Master Resin 1/72nd scale Buccaneer S.Mk.2A and S.Mk.2B models are already the most accurate and highly detailed Buccaneer models yet produced in any scale, Czech Master Resin have just informed me that the new Fleet Air Arm Buccaneer S.Mk.2/2C/2D model will now include a larger 'Photo-Etch' set with even greater cockpit detail. They are currently in discussions with © Eduard, the producers of the existing 'Photo-Etch' set, to develop a more advanced version. This will not only include more details for the already excellent cockpit interior, but highly detailed instrument panels - printed in colour! Note: For anyone who has never seen the incredible detail that can be achieved with these painted, 'Photo-Etch' sets, scroll down to the bottom of this page to see close-ups of the © Eduard set, which is currently supplied with Czech Master Resin's 1/72nd scale No.168 Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk.IXE (released in October 2006). |

| Due to the success of the RAF Buccaneer S.Mk.2A and 2B models launched earlier this year, Czech Master Resin have already started work on the next model in the series. This model will cover a wide selection of Fleet Air Arm airframes from 1965 to 1978 and include Buccaneer S.Mk.2, S.Mk.2C and 2D aircraft. Like their existing two models, this future release will be heavily based on actual airframe Mod. reference numbers to ensure historical accuracy. The subtle differences of the early Blackburn-built airframes will be included this time to compliment the Hawker Siddeley-built airframes. This model will also include the correct Martin Baker Mk.4MSA/MSB Ejector Seats, as fitted to the earlier Buccaneer S.Mk.2, as well as the Martin Baker Mk.6MSB Ejector Seats, fitted to the later Buccaneer S.Mk.2C/2D airframes. This model will be 'Fully Navalised' - something no other model manufacturer has ever attempted. It will include the 'Assisted Take-Off Hooks' (and separate cover doors) plus 'Holdback' mechanism so that the model can be accurately depicted in the 'Nose-High' attitude of a catapult launch. It is rumoured that a separate catapult launch set might even be produced which could contain such things as a Bridle, Spreader, Shuttle and Holdback for those wishing to detail a Catapult Launch diorama - though this cannot be confirmed at this time. Fully details will be published as they become available. |
